Plastic Pollution

Every year, 11 million metric tons of plastic enters our oceans, harming the sensitive environment and marine life. By 2040, this number is expected to triple.

What can we do about it?

Wave Ware provides safe and holistically environmentally responsible alternatives to the many plastic products on the market. By using only renewable raw materials that are biobased and compostable, Wave Ware creates alternatives that are not only ecofriendly, but sturdy and durable enough for multi-use.

What makes Wave Ware so special?

Wave Ware incorporates a unique carbon negative, renewable and biobased raw material called Ocean Calcium Sand into all of its products. Many companies only focus on the end-of-life for products. While this is valuable, it is important to also consider the beginning of life. Where did the raw materials come from?
What are their impacts?

Wave Ware’s products contribute to the circular bioeconomy. A circular bioeconomy
is powered by nature, where renewable natural materials are used to replace
non-renewable fossil-based sources. The beginning of life for our products is just as valuable as the end of life. Our raw materials are renewable and sustainable, and the end of life provides a more plant/soil-friendly compost.

What is Ocean Calcium Sand?

Ocean Calcium Sand is a unique renewable, sustainable, and biobased mineral that is at the heart of all our products. Ocean Calcium Sand naturally forms in the ocean through precipitation events that are driven by photosynthesis in cyanobacteria. During its formation, carbon is sequestered from the atmosphere, serving as a carbon sink. An independent third-party verified Carbon Footprint Analysis (conducted per ISO 14067:2018) determined that Ocean Calcium Sand has a negative carbon footprint, meaning it removes more carbon from the atmosphere than the harvesting emits. Additionally, ASTM D6866 testing confirms Ocean Calcium Sand is derived from renewable resources. Other mineral fillers come from non-renewable fossil sources — once they are mined, they are gone. These mines also contribute to habitat loss, deforestation, and changes to local geological ground conditions.

Ocean Calcium Sand also has unique properties that aid in the strength and durability of our products, providing an environmentally responsible alternative without sacrificing performance.

How does Ocean Calcium Sand improve our products’ end-of-life?

Ocean Calcium Sand improves the end-of-life of our products by providing a more soil-friendly compost. Ocean Calcium Sand contains bioavailable calcium and is currently used in agriculture to improve plant health and yields. Ocean Calcium Sand has been shown to increase yields and improve the health of corn, soybeans, alfalfa, wheat, and more. It also helps to prevent leaching of fertilizer, reducing fertilizer usage over time. By including it in our compostable products, we are helping to create an end-of-life solution plants will love.
