NantBioPlastics LLC announces company name change
New name ‘better reflects’ goals, standards
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GADSDEN, Ala. – NantBioPlastics LLC on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, announced the company’s name will change from NantBioPlastics to NantBioRenewables LLC.
Kevin O’Connor, Director of Sales for NantBioRenewables (NBR), said the name change (effective immediately) will define the goals of the company more accurately to the public and potential industry partners.
NantBioRenewables manufactures compostable products under the Wave Ware brand, such as straws (with BPI and TUV Home certifications); thermoformed tableware; and injection-molded cutlery, with plans to develop more biofriendly goods as the company expands.
“(The name) NantBioPlastics did not clearly represent our company vision regarding environmentally compostable products. Therefore, NantBioPlastics is changing its name to NantBioRenewables,” O’Connor said. “NBR primarily focuses on bioresins, and therefore we felt it better defines our product lines and company scope.”
“As we continue to grow our brand and message of a truly environmental product, we feel that the new name will better reflect the evolving focus and standards of our company.”
The goal of NantBioRenewables is to provide an exceptional, planet-conscious product, O’Connor added.
“We strive to ‘give back’ to the environment by developing products that provide both positive beginning-of-life and end-of-life properties,” O’Connor said.
In the renewable materials/bioplastics industry, the “beginning of life” for a product has to do with the materials and processes used to make the product. At NBR, a renewable and sustainable calcium sand is central to its renewable goods.
According to NBR’s website, Ocean Calcium Sand (OCC) naturally and continuously forms in the ocean, and it has a Green Circle Certified negative carbon footprint.
The “end of life” for a product refers to what happens to the product when it is no longer being used for its intended purpose. NBR products are compostable (whether industrial - requiring a specialized facility - or home/backyard compost), and the calcium in the OCC is returned as nutrients to the soil through that compost.
“We believe the beginning of life for our raw materials is just as important as having a positive end-of-life solution,” O’Connor said. “By utilizing renewable, sustainable, and climate-positive raw materials that provide added benefits upon composting, we ensure that our products come full circle.”
“Our new company name, NantBioRenewables, highlights the bio-circularity of our product lines,” O’Connor added.
“We hope to continue to build our presence and continue changing the way foodservice products are viewed and used,” O’Connor said. “We look forward to the positive growth of our brand and are excited to take this step forward toward a more sustainable future.”
